New Govt. has voted out the independent directors of Coal India Ltd. Absence of independent directors will hamper the decision making process. New independent directors are to be appointed shortly. It will be prudent on part of the Govt. to get independent directors elected by non-Govt. shareholders. This will improve the corporate governance. It is high time, the Maharatna and Navaratna PSUs are freed from administrative ministries. Further, companies like Coal India should list their subsidiaries in stock exchanges. This will help public know the performance of individual subsidiaries.
